After buying it on the release date several months ago, I finally finished volume 1 of I’m in Love with the Villainess, a yuri otome isekai light novel. Ordinary office worker Oohashi Rei wakes up in the body of the protagonist of her favorite otome game, Revolution. To her delight, the first person to greet her is also her favorite character, Claire Francois—the main antagonist of the story! Now, Rei is determined to romance Claire instead of the game’s male leads. But how will her villainous ladylove react to this new courtship?! –Seven Seas I’m in Love with the Villainess is very charming and has lots of moments that made me laugh out loud; however, it also has many heartwarming moments and addresses things such as homophobia. I highly enjoyed the banter between Rei and Claire. I also like that it is explicitly stated that Rei only likes girls. I also like that Rei has written Revolution fanfiction. It’s something I find relatable as a fanfiction writer myself. The only negative thing I have to say about the characters is that the princes have had little character development and I can’t remember them other than Thane; however, they are far from the focus of the story. Overall, I loved volume 1 of I’m in Love with the Villainess and I can’t wait to read volume 2 and see how the relationship between Rei and Claire develops.
